Pi Brain

Available on AppStore

How many digits of pi can you remember? Since pi is an irrational number, the digits never end or repeat. You will probably never have to use more than a dozen digits in any calculation, so why learn the digits of pi? For some people this is a challenge. The Guinness record for remembered digits is 67,890 digits. With this program you will have the opportunity to test your memory, and learn a universal number. Have contests with your friends and family. This is a great learning tool for all ages. You be surprised how far you can get with a little practice.

There are a few user settings in the application preferences that you may find useful. The digits are broken into groups of ten by default. You can turn off the keypad sounds. You can reset on start, or retain the last digits.

The option to save the score will only appear if you do not make more than one error, and do not use the hint or switch to the learn mode. Scores can be sorted by date, name, or score. Use this list to verify your retention over long periods.

App will determine which iPhone OS version you are using at start up, and setup the scroll to work properly with each OS. If you have PiBrain3 please remove and use this app instead. See here for more technical details on the differences.

Pi Brain+

Available on AppStore

Pi Brain+ is an enhanced version of the original Pi Brain, and will only run on iOS 5.0 or higher.

Additional features:

Game Center

There are three categories: Expert, Digits, and Points. Expert mode has no verification. Digits are not timed, and must be started from the beginning. The Points are calculated with 100 for each digits, and bonus points for speed. If the counter on the lower right turns red, then the current session cannot be used for scoring. Too many incorrect entires or use of the Learn tab will disable score saving.

To use the timer press the red timer on the lower left of the key pad. The timer will start on the first digit press. You can set up the auto-stop that will stop the timer at a particular digit, or you can stop the timer manually by pressing the green timer. The auto stop value will be displayed under the activity wheel. If you make a mistake, the timer will still run. If you elect to save the score, then the timer will stop. The timer will also stop if there is no input for ten seconds.

Digit tracking on Learn screen

The Learn screen will highlight the current digits you have input. You can set the line break length and number of learn digits to display Settings tab.

Skip feature

Skip ahead (up to 500) the amount of the Learn digits by pressing the Fast Forward button on the lower right. Once you press this button, you will no longer be able to save your score.

Settings Menu

The settings are pretty much self explanatory. If Verify Entry is off, a new layout of keys will appear. If the line break digits are set to 20, the first line will be broken to allow all 20 digits to fit. You may want to turn off Game Center if you do not have a Wi-Fi connection or access to the Game Center. Game Center is only accessed during the saving of the score, and without a connection, you may experience some delays in key pad response.

Scores Tab

The scores display the local scores saved on your device, and allows you access to Game Center. When you save a score, it is saved in both Game Center, and locally. Game Center only saves the highest score. You can delete an entry by swiping it to bring up the Delete button. Tap on any entry to get more details.

iPad Version

The iPad version allows you to type and learn on the same screen. The spacing of the keys are the same as a standard keypad, to allow for easier entry. For version 4.2, new achievements have been added. Fast forward maximum has been increased to 5000 digits. Because of the larger display, the learn digits can be set up to 500.
