The glass sample used here is 20% VLT. The color of the glass has a blue tint, but is about the same brightness as the gray value on the screen. The brightness of the app is set at 56%, with the step size of 4%. The right bar is at 52%, and is darker than the center. The left bar is 60% and is lighter. It is difficult to tell the difference between light and dark, when the step size is small. You can rotate your iPod, and there will be more bars displayed.

In landscape, we have 48%, 52%, 56%, 60%, and 64%. If you still cannot see that the far left bar is darker, and the far right bars are lighter, then you can adjust the step by using the two finger pinch gester.

The above images have steps of 10% and 25% (the maximum). You should definitely tell the difference at these levels. The smaller you can make the step size, the more accurate your reading. You should be able to notice the left bar is darker than the glass, and the right bar lighter.
